About Galaxie 500:
Galaxie 500 was a trio: Damon Krukowski, Naomi Yang, and Dean Wareham.
They made three albums: Today (1988), On Fire (1989), and This Is Our Music (1990). The band was formed in 1987 and broke up in 1991.
In 1996, Rykodisc released a CD Box Set of the three original Galaxie 500 albums plus a fourth CD of rarities and unreleased material. Ryko also released a live recording, Copenhagen (recorded in 1990), and a compilation CD, The Portable Galaxie 500. In 2004, after the Box Set went out of print and began selling for too much money on eBay, Ryko released the fourth disk of rarities on its own as Uncollected Galaxie 500.
Also now available, from Plexifilm, is a Galaxie 500 DVD, with live footage from the band's personal archives, music videos, an interview and "acoustic" session filmed for UK television; and, on a second disc, two complete "bootleg" shows. Included in the booklet is an interview conducted in 2004, with Yo La Tengo's James McNew.
